Global Graphene Blockchain Developer Conference
SHANGHAI, CHINA — The 2nd Global Graphene Blockchain Developer Conference took place on July 6th-7th, 2019 at the Shanghai Kempinski Hotel. The conference uncovered the latest breakthroughs in Graphene blockchain technology, such as cross-chain, blockchain interoperability, and trusted computing. It also gave developers and technology enthusiasts a platform to connect directly with the Graphene community.
BitShares as a Graphene Success Story
Ryan R. Fox is the Development Coordinator for BitShares. Fox gave the keynote speech, introducing the BitShares Core Team Development Roadmap, and an overview of BitShares achievements in the past five years. He also shared the Development Roadmap for BitShares Core Team moving forward.
According to Fox, since the team’s start, the number of user accounts has reached a total of 1.6 million. There are 25,000 users holding more than $10 USD in token value; and over 12,000 users having more than $100 USD in token value.

Revenues and Results
Meanwhile, Fox showed data on BitShares funding. He noted that “the BitShares DAC enjoys over $52M in reserves, which can be distributed to advance the platform”. Anyone may create proposals, and will secure funding if approved by the core token holder votes. For instance in 2018, over $40,000 USD of funding was spent on white-hat hackers, making the software more secure.
“The BitShares Core Team is focusing mainly on protocol development and system enhancements in 2019. In the future, BitShares Core Team will work on the exploration and development of the mobile app and hardware wallets. Interoperability, Timelock Contracts (HTLC) payment channels, Interledger Protocol (ILP), and P2P Lending are also on the horizon. The team will also focus on a novel asset handling framework called ‘tanks and taps.’ “
As a DAC, BitShares relies on numerous teams to support and build the platform. Fox introduced eight funded BitShares teams. These were: Core Team, Reference UI Team, Mobile App Team, DEXBot Team, Marketing Team, Legal Team, Website Team, and Infrastructure Team. Combined, these teams will utilize a $2M+ USD budget during 2019.
Strengthening the Graphene Network
In addition to introducing the team progress and project development, Fox also expressed his vision for establishing and strengthening collaboration with the BitShares Blockchain Foundation (BBF). “With the support of the BBF, we have a strong place to custody our tokens. Thus we can have a secure and accurate disclosure of how we spent our funds.” Fox stressed the importance of having a foundation like BBF within a decentralized organization.
Filled with enthusiasm, Fox stressed that marketing and academic collaboration are significant in the development of any blockchain in the future. The promotion of blockchain technology is inseparable from increasing brand awareness and building cooperation in academia.
Tong Shen is the BitShares Core Team Coordinator Assistant. He mentioned that the BitShares Core Team would cooperate with other teams to strengthen communication within communities. This would include the Chinese community especially, and empower BitShares blockchain comprehensively.

Throughout the conference, the BitShares Core Team connected with other proposal teams, exchanging ideas with the innovative thought leaders. Annemieke Dirkes, the legal representative of the BitShares blockchain, introduced the BitShares Blockchain Foundation during her speech.
Jademont (a BitShares committee member and co-founder of Waterdrip Capital) led a panel discussion with Fabian Schuh, committee member of BitShares and CTO of Blockchain Projects BV. The topic of the panel discussion was the global ecology of the Graphene blockchain.
Enthusiasm among Graphene Blockchain Developers
Graphene blockchain is well known as a top blockchain developer framework. Other projects based on this framework, besides BitShares, include STEEM, EOS, GXChain, YOYOW, Bottos, SEER, μNEST, Finchain, NULS, OracleChain and everiToken, among others. All conference attendees expressed great enthusiasm for empowering the BitShares ecosystem, increasing BitShares position among the top-rated projects in the blockchain industry.
Special thanks to host GBAC and co-host Bitwires. The 2nd Global Graphene Blockchain Developer Conference 2019 was a great success, instilling a sense of positive optimism and energy for furthering Graphene based blockchains in future.
